In response to the dramatic rise in Catalytic Converter theft, Maple Fleet Services have launched CatSecure, a new theft prevention device. A bespoke design specifically for the Mercedes Sprinter, CatSecure is a cost effective solution that takes around 15minutes to fit, potentially saving businesses thousands of pounds.
The rising scrap metal value has meant Catalytic Converters have become highly lucrative, thanks to the precious metal content of Platinum, Rhodium and Palladium. Commercial vehicles, like the Mercedes Sprinter, have become highly targeted due to ease of access to the Catalytic Converter, which a determined thief can retrieve in less than 5 minutes.
Replacing a stolen Catalytic Converter costs up to £1,500, even before factoring in other damage caused to the vehicle by a thief as a result of the removal. The consequential effect on the business is further reaching – with driver and vehicle downtime, hire vehicle costs, increased insurance premiums, missed deliveries and loss of business all impacting on the bottom line. A feature of the latest Euro 5 Sprinter (from 2009 onwards) is the repositioning of the Catalytic Converter closer to the engine at the front of the vehicle. CatSecure is a key-operated bonnet lock that prevents access to the engine compartment, even in the event that forced entry is gained to the cab and the bonnet-release activated, making it almost impossible for a thief to reach, let alone remove the cat.
The innovative CatSecure was developed after Maple Fleet Services were approached directly by a number of clients who had experienced an increase in Catalytic Converter theft on their fleet. A cost-effective solution at just £139.00, it can even be retro-fitted to any Euro 5 Sprinter without any welding or drilling into the bodywork required.
Paul Nunn, Marketing Manager at Maple Fleet Services explained: “CatSecure is a tailor-made solution in response to a number of customers approaching us complaining of increased Catalytic Converter theft on their fleet. If you imagine the cost of replacing a Catalytic Converter and repairing the damage on one vehicle and apply this across an entire fleet, the costs can be staggering. The rise in thefts over the last 12 months has increased dramatically, so CatSecure is the perfect way to protect your Mercedes Sprinter Vans and your business.”
“CatSecure is a simple and cost-effective way of securing your Catalytic Converters on a Mercedes Sprinter. The device is easily installed and operated whilst securely and effectively protecting the cat. It makes what was once an easy job for a thief virtually impossible.” Maple Fleet Services has over 37 years of experience in providing solutions for commercial vehicle safety and security.
