Lawrie Alford
Lawrie Alford has a strong industry background and started his career as a technical apprentice more than 30 years ago.
He has worked extensively within the logistics, automotive and transport sectors developing new business areas at a senior level.
Lawrie was co-founder of Topmark Vehicle Contracts, Alternative Fuel Champion for the US Giant GE and led the technical audit/ compliance team with Transport for London during the 2012 Olympic Games.
During his career he has managed a number of “start-up” projects within the van truck and bus sectors
Lawrie is a CPC Fleet Engineer and L6 Technical Trainer.
Over the past 10 years he has focussed on promoting technical skills in the work place especially accredited assessment schemes for technicians and engineers.
Pre-pandemic Lawrie was Head of Automotive at Logistics UK, a Judge at the “World Skills” event and part of the Gatsby Foundation working group for the technician registration scheme.
He now has his own technical consultancy business (LATC) is a passionate STEM Ambassador and presenter for the DfE Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge (ASK) Team. His entertaining and informative “apprenticeship by numbers” is very popular with students, teachers and parents.
He is an enthusiastic presenter at Motorsport Events - especially the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the British Motor Show.
